Vine Servers: Tomato Vine
Several splendid large ladle forms were created in the Tomato Vine motif. The oyster ladle, intended for serving oyster stew, was similar to a soup ladle except about an inch shorter.
(Illustrated above, left to right)
- Oyster ladle, gilt fluted-edge bowl, "TLF" monogram, 11 1/8"
- Soup ladle, gilt bowl, "CP" monogram, 12 1/4"
The gravy or stuffing spoon and punch ladle, seen below, each display a button on the reverse of the handle to catch the edge of the serving vessel and prevent it from slipping in. This punch ladle's unusual bowl, termed "lobulated" resembles a bunch of grapes and is unique to Vine pattern. For additional illustrations, see the Tomato Vine gallery in Images & Details.
